International exchange platform for visual arts

A network for direct, reciprocal exchange between artists, designers and theorists. You offer what you have, you find what you are looking for.

In practice, here is what the network makes possible:

The origins of the project

In France, fewer than 2% of practising visual artists are awarded an institutional residency each year. Access to workspaces, to mobility and to networks remains largely determined by selection channels — and by each person's means.

Artistswap starts from a simple observation: artists already possess, collectively, what they need — studios, homes, equipment, expertise. What is missing is a framework to pool these resources directly, between peers.

An open and inclusive network that adapts to everyone's circumstances: with no limit of age, identity or background, with or without a project under way, whether you have a great deal of time or very little.

Crossed mobility at the heart of Artistswap

Crossed mobility is at the heart of Artistswap: two peers swap their home and/or their studio, for the length of a stay, locally as well as internationally. A reciprocal, self-managed exchange, with no selection and no commission, built on mutual agreement.

Joining Artistswap means entering a network where everyone gives as much as they receive, on the basis of what you have to offer and what you are looking for.

Other forms of exchange

Artistswap adapts to your circumstances — a family, a job alongside, an intermittent practice. Involvement happens at your own pace, according to what you are able to offer.
